- The Athlete lies on their back to the bench, assuming the lifting position during the entire lift.
- Shoulders, buttocks, fully extended legs and heels (if applicable) remain touching the bench during the entire lift.
- The weighted bar is placed on two racks which the lifter must take, assisted or unassisted, until the chief referee commands "start". (The athletes arms must be fully extended and locked).

The spacing of the Athlete’s hands is within eighty-one (81) cm from either forefinger as indicated by the markings on the bar.

Lowering the bar to their chest, they must hold it motionless, a pause, and then press the bar upwards evenly to full extension, locking both arms simultaneously until the chief referee commands "rack".

Three judges will indicate a successful or unsuccessful lift by illuminating white lights for successful or red lights for unsuccessful.

Each athlete has three attempts at each lift.

After each successful lift, the weight must be increased by at least 1kg.

A maximum of two (2) minutes is given from when the athletes name is called to start the lift.

They must also leave the competition platform within thirty (30) seconds of completing their lift.

The athlete with the greatest result within their category and the three successful lifts wins.

In the event of a tie, the winner is the athlete who weighed in the lightest and lifted the heaviest weight.
